How to avoid a soap meltdown

Handmade soaps may look tough, but they’re surprisingly delicate. Made with natural oils, plant butters, and glycerin, they need proper care to stay firm, fragrant, and effective.

The golden rule is keep soap dry between uses. Always place your bar on a well-draining soap dish so water can run off easily. Soap that sits in water softens quickly and doesn’t last as long.

Airflow matters. Handmade soaps need space to breathe, so avoid airtight containers and plastic wraps. Unused bars are best stored in paper, cloth bags, or cardboard boxes that allow natural air circulation.

For longer storage, choose a cool, dry place away from heat, sunlight, and humidity. Fully cured soaps last longer, lather better, and hold their scent more effectively.
