Point number 2 of our publicly stated Mission states -- "Supporting natural materials & responsible practices..."

In part, we achieve this through minimalist packaging that is better, safer, and kinder to the environment. It may not be as 'sexy' as flashy packaging filled with plastic, ribbons, and stickers—but those are often single-use materials that can't be reused and usually end up in the bin.

I've seen so much packaging waste during festive seasons such as Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Christmas. This happens largely because people and companies want to impress recipients, and retailers know that the bigger, flashier, and bulkier the packaging, the better it sells.

Except that flashy, excessive, and high-plastic packaging is bad for the environment.

Emunah avoids plastic as much as possible & uses kraft brown paper bags/wrapping because of these 7 reasons:

1. Biodegradability - brown paper breaks down more easily and is easier to recycle.

   
   

2. Zero/less plastic - Poses a reduced threat to wildlife, as once decomposed, plastic fragments can harm animals.

   
   

3. Recyclability - Brown paper is typically easier to recycle because it’s often uncoated and free of dyes or heavy inks.

   Recycling brown paper requires less energy compared to processing plastic or coated papers.

   
   

4. Renewable Source - Some brown paper is made with post-consumer recycled content, reducing the demand for virgin materials.

   
   

5. Lower Carbon Footprint (in some cases) - If sourced locally or made from recycled paper, brown paper packaging can have a smaller carbon footprint than plastic packaging.

   
   

6. Less Chemical Processing - Often manufactured with fewer bleaching agents and dyes, which means less water and chemical pollution during production.

   
   

7. Encourages Simpler Packaging - Because it’s typically plainer, brown paper packaging promotes a minimalist approach, which can reduce excessive packaging waste overall.

Summary:

Better brown paper packaging is environmentally friendly because it is biodegradable, recyclable, and made from renewable resources with fewer chemicals.

It's a simple but effective step toward sustainable packaging solutions.
